Starting Research: Using Reference Sources

It's always good to start your research with reference books: they can help you to understand the current debates and the past history of your topic.  If you're lucky, they'll also suggest the beginning of your bibliography.

  • Sage E-reference books
    Full-text of many different encyclopedias.
  • Credo
Credo has the full-text of over 500 reference books.
  • CQ Researcher
This database has solid information about current events. Be sure to use the menu on the left side of the screen to help navigate the long PDFs.

Getting Help

You'll notice that my contact information is on the right side of the screen on every one of your class research papers.  Feel free to contact me via phone, email, or chat using the information given.

If you have a question and I'm not available, you have two good options for help:

  • Call the reference desk at 773-244-5247
  • Open up a Help Desk Ticket, using your username and password, and a librarian will respond to your question via email.
